Hi! I’m Vy with Crafting Daily Dose. Welcome to this month’s A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop, featuring alternatives for the October 2024 Nests of Christmas kit.
This kit included supplies for 10 cards, 5 each of 2 designs. Kits always come with an exclusive stamp set, a mini ink cube, embellishments, and adhesives. As of today, refills are no longer available for this kit.
My first card takes advantage of the arched window die cut. I trimmed off the blue panel of the trifold cardbase from the kit, leaving just a regular card with a window opening on the front, and then I used the envelope to create a pop-out window card.
I carefully trimmed off the flap and edges of the envelope and opened it up. I then cut it down to 8-1/4" (W) x 5-1/2" (H), being mindful of the score line that separated the back of the envelope from the front. The envelope piece is 4” to the left of that score line and 4-1/4” to the right. I created additional score lines at 2" on both the left and right sides of the original line.
I added adhesive to the envelope panel on the right and just the top and bottom edges of the panel on the left, and then attached them to the inside of the card, creating a box shape as shown.
Next, I added adhesive to only the right side of the window die cut and fit it over the window opening when the card was closed. Because it’s now adhered to just one panel of the envelope, it swings open when the card is opened.
Then it was time for the fun of decorating! To maximize how much of the large branch die cut could be seen, I cut it in half and separated out the parts before glueing them down. Finally, I added the bird, ribbon, and stamped sentiment. It’s important to avoid covering the top or right edges of the window die cut—the card won’t open if there’s an obstruction.
Once completed, the window die cut can be enjoyed even when the card is opened!
Measurements:
- Kit cardbase
8-1/2” (W) x 5-1/2” (H), scored at 4-1/4” along the long side (original score line)
- Kit envelope
8-1/4" (W) x 5-1/2" (H), scored at 2”, 4” (original score line), and 6” along the long side
The second card uses the cardbase with a rectangular window. I folded all the panels back the opposite way than intended. Because only the white side of the frame panel was now showing, I stamped branches all over it using the included Shaded Spruce ink. I then scored halfway across the blue panel. I also scored 1/2" from the free edge of the blue panel and the frame panel and adhered them together. The card could now be folded down flat and then opened up into an easel shape. All that was left was to decorate with the small bird and branch die cuts and stamped sentiment.
Measurements:
- Kit cardbase
5-1/2” (W) x 12-3/4” (H), scored at 1/2" (blue panel), 2-1/8" (blue panel), 4-1/4” (original score line), 8-1/2" (original score line), and 12-1/2" (frame panel) along the long side
